This month our employee spotlight turns to Kris, one of the most positive, upbeat people we know. He is a great team player and a favorite co-worker in every department. In typical fashion, Kris willingly agreed to help us by taking time from his busy schedule to answer a few questions… with a smile.
How long have you been with the company?
I have been with Flexpress for 3 years now. But it feels like I just started a few months ago.
How would you describe your duties here?
I started in the bindery and I still pitch in there when needed. But I now handle the daily shipping, whether UPS, FedEx, USPS or couriers. I also assist Philip and Sandy up front from time to time and I help everyone if they have iPhone issues, especially in setting up their emails on them.
What was the most unusual job you held before joining Flexpress?
My first job I worked for Dominos Pizza. That was pretty interesting and an experience. I didn’t know how picky people were with pizza. LOL
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is the interaction I have with everyone who works here. We have such a great group of employees.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends outside of work. I love to cook and bake. I like to cook without recipes and try to create my own and see if certain ingredients work together well. But I also love trying new recipes, especially desserts. I also enjoy playing any of the Call of Duty franchises. I think I’m pretty good.
You also attend college, right? What is your major?
I do attend college. I currently attend the University of Texas at Dallas. I’m getting my major in Biology right now and I’m planning to get my Masters in Healthcare Management. I have also been thinking about attending Culinary School. I love to cook and everyone who has tried my food asks me when I’m going to culinary school. So I’m thinking about it. (smiles)
Are there any organizations that you belong to? If so, how did you get involved with them?
The past three years I’ve volunteered for a non-profit organization called Mary Mother of The Poor. The organization was started by Father Fernando Suarez who travels around the world to give his message of God and to raise donations and awareness for this organization. The organization helps feed malnourished kids in the Philippines and also gives scholarships for kids to attend school. I recently volunteered and helped raised over $15,000 in donations and sales of rosaries in a span of two days. I got involved with this because my aunt actually met Father Fernando Suarez and asked him if he will come to Dallas. My whole family volunteers.
What is the one thing people would be most surprised to find out about you?
I was an accomplished musician in high school. I have won many awards for solos and my last year I was an All State Bass Clarinet player. I was actually fifth chair in the highest band of Texas. I was the top Bass Clarinet player in DFW and North Texas that same year.
What is your favorite book or movie?
My favorite movie currently is definitely “The Avengers.” It was awesome! I’m definitely a huge fan of Iron Man. But my favorite book of all time is “Cold Sassy Tree.” I remember reading it for a summer reading book in middle school and I still read it to this day. It is such a scandalous and heartwarming book.
Is there one secret talent that you keep hidden, or only show off for party tricks?
That’s a funny question. The only secret thing I can do is shape my tongue into a clover. Once the party starts picking up I can end up dancing like a crazy person.
Well, Kris, that sounds like a good reason for Flexpress to have a party soon! Thanks for letting us share a little bit about you today, and keep up the great work at Flexpress.
